The plum is considered a common plant growing in almost every garden. The essential condition for a good and tasty harvest is the health of the tree. Unfortunately, gardeners often have to deal with diseases and pests that lead not only to damage to the crop, but also to the death of the entire garden.

Most often, gardeners complain about the appearance of worms in plums, eating away both the bone and the pulp. As a result, the fruits fall off not yet ripe, but already wormy. This happens as a result of untimely spraying of trees from pests in the spring.

Insects harming plums

The question of how to process plums from worms in fruits is relevant for almost every gardener. But before you start processing, you need to decide on the reason why the plum becomes wormy.

This can happen as a result of the appearance of pests such as:

  • sawyer;
  • garden mite;
  • fruit moth;
  • aphid;
  • apple sucker-leaflet;
  • plum moth.

Apple sucker

The most dangerous of all pests is the plum moth. It is her larval caterpillars that penetrate inside and gnaw out the core of the soft bone. If the bone tissue has already hardened, then the worm gnaws through the passages inside it, leaving the products of its vital activity in the cavity. Damaging the fruit, the plum moth stops its growth and provokes early ripening, as well as falling off.

Plum sawfly is no less dangerous for plums. This pest hibernates in the ground at a depth of about 20 cm. As soon as the first rays of the sun appear, warming the earth to +8 degrees, it flies out to the surface in the form of a small fly. These pests infect flowers and lay eggs in them. The emergence of caterpillars occurs along with fruit setting. First, sawflies eat small fruits, and then penetrate inside, eating the pulp and provoking shedding of plums, which quickly become rotten.

All other pests are no less dangerous, in the end they lead to the fact that the plums fall off, not fully ripe. Therefore, even before worms appear in the plum, every gardener should know how to deal with them and prevent damage to the fetus.

Means for treating plums from pests

Why the plum is wormy and what to do to prevent damage to the fetus is not such a difficult question. There are now many ways to control pests, both environmentally friendly and chemical.

The first treatment should be carried out even before the tree should bloom with the onset of warm days. At this time, the plum is processed with special fragrant infusions and solutions, such as an infusion of wormwood, pine needles or a soap solution. Also, odors such as tobacco dust, soap or mustard can be used for spraying. All these infusions scare away insects and are good because they can be used many times. You also need to know how to process plums from worms in fruits before and after flowering, except for odorous solutions. Several times a season, it is required to spray trees with insecticidal preparations.

Chlorophos

The most common and effective remedies are:

  1. Chlorophos.
  2. Karate.
  3. Benzophosphate.
  4. Calypso.
  5. Karbofos.
  6. Fufanon.

Spraying with these drugs must be carried out 4 times per season:

  • in the spring, before the buds open, as soon as the sap begins to move in the trees;
  • during the appearance of the first leaves;
  • before flowering;
  • as soon as after flowering the fruits begin to set, but they have not yet begun to ripen.

With a large number of pests, treatments are performed more often, with an interval of 10 days. But it should be borne in mind that during the flowering period, treatment with chemicals is prohibited, and the last spraying must be carried out no later than 25 days before harvesting.

Before using the product, you must carefully read the instructions for use and strictly follow them. Since, for example, a weak concentration of the drug will not give the expected result, but a strong one, on the contrary, will harm the tree. To process one adult tree, an average of about 3-4 liters of the product will be needed.

Karbofos

During spraying, you need to pay attention to the soil around the seedling, which also requires processing. Experts in this field recommend changing the formulation with each spraying, as otherwise the product can be addictive to insects.

Preventive treatment methods

No one likes worm plum, so everyone needs to know how to deal with such a problem, as well as how to prevent it. Moreover, the disease is easier to prevent than to get rid of it later. In order not to get worms in the fruits of the plum, what to do, you need not only to know, but also to carry out preventive treatment.

To protect a tree from pests, it is required not only to process it, but also to provide full care, feeding and regular watering of the plant. You also need to systematically carry out sanitary cleaning of the garden, which consists in cleaning the fallen leaves, cutting thickened branches, and digging up the soil.

Note! It will not hurt to process the plum in the fall. This will help reduce the number of pests that hibernate in the garden. For such a preventive treatment, it will be enough to spray the trees with a 1% Bordeaux mixture.

Planting plants that smell strong in your garden will also help prevent pests from growing in your garden. Calendula, marigolds or mint are suitable as such plants. For protective purposes, you can attract birds to help by hanging birdhouses in the garden. They will cleanse the garden of pests and make it more comfortable.

Folk methods are indispensable in pest control. Many people advise planting wormwood bushes in tree trunks. The only thing that needs to be observed while doing this is to trim the tops of the plant, not allowing it to bloom.

Important! An important sanitary measure is the whitewashing of the tree trunk and skeletal branches, which is carried out in the spring.

In order for preventive measures to be effective, they must be permanent and carried out together with neighbors in the site, since all insects can fly.

You can reduce the risk of insect damage to trees by regularly examining the garden, since it is very important to avoid worminess and take immediate measures to protect it.
