The most favorite shrub of modern gardeners is black currant, because the berry contains many vitamins and beneficial trace elements. Despite the relatively young age of this crop, there are already more than 200 varieties. But breeders do not stop at the achieved result, and every year more and more new varieties appear. Dobrynya black currant deserves the attention of a modern gardener; the description of the variety requires consideration in order to understand what advantages this culture has.

A bit of history

The founder of the black currant variety Dobrynya is the Russian breeder A.I. Astakhanov. It is this plant that is considered his best achievement. At the All-Russian Research Institute of Lupina, by crossing two varieties (42-7 and "Izyumnaya"), a new variety of shrub with tasty and juicy berries was obtained. A variety of black currant in 2004 was entered in the State Register and recommended for cultivation in the Central and West Siberian regions.

Description of the variety

The plant has compact forms, erect shrubs, medium or low growth (approximately 1.5 m to 1.7 m). The height of the bush depends on the type of soil in the garden and the climatic conditions of the area where it is grown.

Young shoots are characterized by the following distinctive characteristics:

  • Slightly shiny olive violet;
  • Slightly lowered to the ground;
  • Leathery leaves are shriveled and green;
  • Blade with a small cut;
  • Leaves are not long.

The currant of this variety blooms with large yellow flowers. The raceme is slightly sinuous and loose, each containing from 6 to 10 flowers. The main harvest is observed in the top and middle tier, berries are very rarely located at the base of the plant.

Interesting. The harvest ripens by mid-June - early July. The fruits are easily detached from the bush, keeping their original shape.

The harvest is large. One berry can reach 5.5-6.5 grams, it has a slightly oval shape and a bright shiny black color. The dense skin of the berries protects them from cracking. Dobrynya black currant berries have a sweet and sour taste with a pleasant aroma. Taste qualities are estimated at 4.6 points. In terms of yield, currant belongs to medium-yielding varieties. On average, up to 1.6 kg can be obtained from one varietal bush; provided the most favorable conditions are provided, the yield can be 2.4 kg.

Interesting to know. The berries of this currant variety have a universal purpose. In their composition, the sum of sugars is 6.9%, titrated acids - 2.5%, ascorbic acid - 200 mg / 100 g.

Dobrynya currant belongs to mid-season plant types that can withstand both summer drought and severe frosts (up to -35 degrees) and frosts in spring.

Features of growing

Not a single plant will give a decent harvest if it is not provided with proper care, the black currant Dobrynya is no exception. It is the observance of the elementary rules of agricultural technology that will help to collect the maximum number of berries with excellent taste from each bush.

Landing

Before you start planting, you should take care of the site and prepare the soil accordingly:

  1. Currant variety Dobrynya prefers direct sunlight, but it will also grow successfully in shaded areas;
  2. To reduce the likelihood of a fungus affecting the bush, you should choose well-ventilated places;
  3. The shrub does not tolerate stagnant water, so the level of groundwater should be low, and in the spring, the soil should be drained;
  4. It is best to grow black currants of this variety on medium to heavy loamy soils;
  5. Before planting, coarse sand, pebbles or small stones are introduced into the ground. They are supplemented with 4-5 kg of manure and 150 gr. wood ash;
  6. Since the plant has a weak root system, the soil is well compacted in the prepared place.

Planting can be done both in spring (from March to May) and in autumn (from September to November).

Important! Currant Dobrynya does not tolerate resettlement from one site to another, so you should immediately choose a permanent place for germination.

The plant is planted to a depth of 40 cm. In the hole, the roots are located throughout the space, and the bush itself tilts 45 degrees with respect to the ground. The distance between the individual bushes is maintained at about 1.5 m, and between the rows - 2.5 m. After the end of the planting work, several fruit buds remain above the ground. The new bush is watered with 1-1.5 buckets of water and mulched using dry soil, sawdust or grass.

Care

To obtain a good harvest, you should ensure that there is sufficient moisture in the root system.

All watering can be conditionally divided into several groups by intensity:

  1. Vegetative. During the growing season, it is enough to water once every 2-3 weeks (15 liters of water);
  2. Ripening period of berries. During the period of fruit formation, the plant requires the greatest amount of moisture, therefore watering increases to 30-40 liters;
  3. In preparation for winter, more active watering is also organized.

It is recommended to prune old shoots annually to update the bush. The procedure is carried out either in early spring or late autumn. An adult plant bears fruit for 4-5 years. After this period, it is recommended to update the bush, for this all branches are cut to a height of 20 cm.

After 3-4 years of life, currant requires additional feeding.

For such purposes, you can use a composition that consists of:

  • 10 liters of water;
  • 10 g of potassium;
  • 6 g magnesium;
  • 3 g of phosphorus.

No more than three liters of such fertilizer should be poured under each bush.

Interesting fact. Bushes, next to which beans are grown, grow and bear fruit better.

Diseases and pests

The great advantage of the variety is the high degree of resistance to powdery mildew. But the plant cannot resist the kidney mite, anthracnose and other fungal diseases on its own. Therefore, experienced gardeners recommend regularly treating the bushes with Aktofit solution.

Leaves affected by septoria

Leaves affected by septoria

Of the most common diseases of the variety, it should be noted:

  1. Septoria. When this fungal disease is affected, whitish spots appear on the leaves, and dark spots on the berries. The fungus actively spreads at high temperatures and humidity;
  2. Goblet rust. When these diseases are affected, swellings appear on the leaves, which very much resemble bubbles. A fungus of this species arises in sedge;
  3. Terry. A clear sign of doubleness is the deformation of the flowers, most often the defeat occurs during planting. It is also possible that ticks and aphids become carriers.

Among the pests that are not averse to settling on currant bushes, one should note the leaf roll, the pale-legged sawfly and the kidney moth.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Dobrynya black currant variety has a lot of advantages that make it so popular among summer residents:

  • High degree of resistance to powdery mildew;
  • Fragrant pulp;
  • Early maturation;
  • Frost resistance;
  • Does not shed flowers in spring frosts;
  • Juicy sweet and sour berries with a pleasant aroma;
  • The pulp contains a high percentage of nutrients, especially vitamins;
  • During growth, a neat crown is formed;
  • The plant begins to bear fruit in 1-2 years after planting;
  • Very large berries;
  • Versatility of use: can be eaten raw, or blanks can be made for winter storage.

But this variety also has disadvantages:

  • Unfastened ripening of fruits, so the crop will need to be harvested in several stages;
  • Young cuttings are very difficult to take root, the root system is formed very slowly, so you cannot do without special stimulants;
  • Susceptible to kidney mites and fungal diseases;
  • Average yield;
  • Low transportability: the berries are crumpled, caked, which leads to the loss of presentation.

Dobrynya currant is an excellent choice for those who seek to provide themselves with a good harvest of delicious berries. With proper care and timely pest control, you can get a big harvest and please yourself with natural vitamins in winter.
