The maple tree is widespread in Europe and Asia. Only in Russia about 20 species of this plant grow. Many of them harm the ecosystem, littering the soil along with weeds. Acer negundo or ash-leaved maple especially succeeded in this.

Maple tree harm

An adult tree breaks down very easily in strong winds, damaging nearby buildings. Its broken branches can injure people and animals. This species is listed in the book of the Russian flora as an invasive plant subject to destruction.

The maple root system destroys the asphalt pavement in settlements, pollen contributes to the manifestation of allergic diseases in humans. In addition, their trunks are an excellent refuge for the life of the American butterfly, whose caterpillars harm cultural plantings.

He is not afraid of frost, his numerous shoots grows even after it has been cut down. Its seeds sow large areas well, even in a state of immaturity, creating impenetrable thickets along the roadsides, on the banks of rivers and lakes, along the railroad tracks.

It is not picky about the soil, it even grows on the canopies of house buildings. The fallen leaves of the American maple are rich in the chemical colins, which can inhibit the growth and activity of other plants. Their crown is a refuge for ticks, all sorts of harmful insects.

Chemicals

Utilities are fighting this vicious enemy with chemicals such as hurricanes, tornadoes, other herbicides and arboricides for weeds and trees and shrubs.

New plantings, their shrub forms and tree cuts are sprayed with a solution of chemicals. A good result is given by brushing with herbicides of freshly cut plants. Only this should be done quickly within 30 minutes after the cut.

Glyphosphate injections are considered one of the most effective ways to combat weeds. The solution is injected with a syringe into the notches of the lower sections of the tree trunk. The result makes itself felt within a month.

Mechanical methods

In the fight against maple and its undergrowth, mechanical uprooting of trees and their shoots gives good results. This is laborious, physical work aimed not only at cutting the tree itself, the stump of which will give a bush of young shoots, but at uprooting the stump with all its roots so that new young trees do not grow from the roots remaining in the ground.

To do this, at a height of up to 2 meters, the trunk is cut down, and within a radius of two meters they dig in with a shovel, cutting off all horizontally located roots. Then the main root is pulled out with rotational and swinging movements, as well as using the lever method.

Mulching method

For the destruction of maple shoots, the mulching method is well suited, when an excavated area with beveled or cut down shoots is covered from above with a dense canvas for the whole summer and autumn.

You can use a dark film as a canvas. Every 2 weeks, it must be lifted, checking for the presence of new processes. Fresh growth is subject to systematic destruction.

What is not effective against maple roots

Trying to destroy the stumps with fire is not worth it. This method does not give results due to the increased water content in the trunk wood. The fire will help the water evaporate from the wood, leaving the deep roots intact.

Only tireless, painstaking work will help get rid of the spread of maple plantations.
