The soil in the garden, namely its quality, is a very important point for every gardener. After all, it is he who determines how fertile and quality the future harvest will be. How to find out which soil prevails on the site and how you can influence its composition - about this in today's article!

The main types of soils

On the territory of Russia, the following types are found: clay, sand, calcareous and marshy. The most interesting thing is that each of these types has both positive and negative aspects. Of course, you cannot find soil in its pure form, most often it is a mixture with a predominance of a certain type.

Clay soil

It is quite simple to define it: when dug up, it crumples into fairly large formations. With heavy rainfall, it becomes very viscous and sticks to shoes.

The clay soil is very dense, due to which it is difficult for it to warm up and ventilate. Growing anything on it is not easy enough.

To make such soil more suitable for gardening, periodically it needs to be flavored with sand, ash and peat.

Sandy soil

This is a fairly easy species that can be found in the garden. It can be defined as follows: it is loose, free-flowing. If you pour water on it, it will be absorbed almost instantly.

Sandy soil, on the one hand, heats up and ventilates quickly. On the other hand, due to its friability, useful mineral fertilizers practically do not linger in it. It also dries quickly.

You can add peat or humus to make it more fertile.

Lime soil

This type is considered the least enriched. It can be identified by its light color and a large number of rocky formations. Plants in it often look lifeless and sickly.

The situation can be corrected only by regularly adding special fertilizers that will saturate the soil with useful substances and soften it.

Swampy soil

Growing vegetables here is also not easy. There are few nutrients that can later be given to plants. Water is absorbed quickly, but dries just as quickly.

To improve such soil, you need to completely dig it up and mix it with a sufficient amount of quarry sand. To increase the yield on such soil, it is required to regularly add mineral fertilizers to it.
