Even in the absence of summer cottages, many people manage to grow fresh herbs at home, regardless of the time of year and weather conditions outside the window.

Many people have noticed that onions that lie for a long time can begin to germinate even without soil and sometimes without water. Is it realistic to grow onions without soil on the balcony? Of course, but several conditions must be met.

Onion preparation

Initially, you need to sort out the onions for growing, rotten and spoiled onions will not work. A layer of husk that can be easily removed must be removed, the main thing is not to overdo it. The neck of the bulb must be cut off. The onions must be sent to hot water for a couple of hours, the temperature should be about 40 degrees.

Such preparation will help you get a richer harvest.

Growing in a package

First, you need to scald sawdust with boiling water, drain the water and cool them. Sawdust must be folded into bags with a layer of 2 centimeters. The bulbs sit side by side, sinking shallowly into the sawdust. Then the bag is inflated and tied. The bag is removed in a warm and dark place until roots appear. When the feathers have grown enough, you can open the bag.

Onions in a bottle

This growing method is the most democratic. To do this, you will need onion sets, a plastic bottle, paper, water.

The neck of the bottle must be cut off. Cut the holes for the bulbs in a checkerboard pattern. The bottom of the bottle is covered with paper. Then the bulbs are inserted into the holes with their tops facing up. Then everything is covered with paper and the bottle is exposed to the light. Watering in this design is carried out regularly and often.

Onions in egg trays

This method is also widely available and inexpensive. Egg trays of any material will do, which is also very convenient.

For this method of planting, the bulbs must be of the appropriate size, and you also need to acquire a pallet.

Warm water is poured into the pan, trays are installed there, then the onions are seated on the trays.

If a plastic tray is taken, then a bottom must be cut out from each cell. Also, the tray itself is not installed directly into the water, but on specially prepared planks so that only the lower part touches the water.

Any of these methods involves abundant watering of the onion, since this plant needs a lot of water to get a good quality harvest. At the same time, you need to make sure that the bulbs do not inadvertently rot.
